MY STORY

If you had asked me ten years ago that I would be making my living teaching meditation, I would have never believed it. But when I look back, the beginning of this path has its origins in early adolescence.

As a teenager I experienced severe depression and with that came a feeling of lost time. I was alive but not truly living. At times the clouds would part and there would be moments of clarity and presence which taught me there was another way to be. My suffering became a gift as I learned at a young age the only thing that mattered was my inner experience, and I became the seeker of a fuller life.

I first sought fulfillment through work and embarked on a career in advertising. I loved my job–it afforded me lots of creative opportunities, great friends, and a comfortable living. It also afforded me a tremendous amount of stress, anxiety, and serious health issues before I turned 30. It seemed as though the more "successful" I became, the further away I got from the path to a clear and enjoyable life.

I tried hypnotherapy, naturopathy, talk therapy, anti-depressants, acupuncture and more to find that intangible state of real living from which I had strayed so far. The bottom hit when my mother passed away suddenly during my mid-twenties. Just as the depression was an odd sort of gift, losing what I loved most in the world taught me not to waste any more time investing in a direction that didn't work for me.

A couple years later, in 2009, Vedic Meditation found me. I was working at an ad agency with James Brown–who, now, is a well-known Vedic Meditation teacher–and I was curious how every afternoon when I went for my coffee break, he went to a comfortable corner somewhere in the office to meditate. When his teacher, Vedic Master Maharishi Vyasananda Thom Knoles, came to San Francsisco, James encouraged me to go to his intro talk, which led me to attend his 4-day course. Within the first week the clouds began to part for me. Nothing I had tried up until that point had had such an immediate and dramatic effect.

Years later, I felt a profound calling to help others experience the same kind of shift I had experienced. I began an intensive study of Vedic knowledge and advanced practices culminating in a three-month immersion program with Thom in the Indian Himalayas. At the end of my training, I was inducted into the Shankaracharya tradition by Swami Kailashanand Brahmachari of Jyotir Math, the highest ranking authority of Vedic knowledge in India.

I now live in Mill Valley, California with my husband and three children (one just born in August 2018) who keep us always moving (so you can trust me when I say this is a practice for busy people). My teaching is based in the Bay Area with occasional courses in other parts of the country.

Thank you for checking out my site. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have about me, the technique, or life in general!
