You Deserve the Best
Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, my teacher’s teacher’s teacher once said..
“You deserve the best. Never feel unworthy or not justified in having the best. I tell you, this is your heritage; but, you have to accept it. You have to expect it; you have to claim it.”
For some, these words bring instant tears. Told first by their parents and then on constant re-play in the mind of their lack of worth, it goes against every grain.
It’s so easy to feel small. To wonder why we deserve anything when we keep making the same mistakes.
But you are here to be the universe living a human story. That story being one of greater and greater realization of that status.
And what is the best? He leaves that open, on purpose I believe. He wants you to think about it. What is the best to you?
The question keeps you digging. I want the best car. Why? It shows I’ve been successful. Why, do you want to be successful? It will prove to my parents I made something of myself. Why do you want to prove to your parents you made something of yourself? I want their loving attention. Why do you want their loving attention? I want to feel safe and whole.
If you keep digging, at the bottom of every desire is the same source. It’s a feeling of pure Being. That experience of being expansive and individual at once. Of living life fully every moment. Of being seen and loved but not just by others, by your inner Self.
What you’ll find is once you’ve fully embraced this idea, this idea that you deserve the best, and truly feel deserving, you already have it.
